Statistical Observation for the Admitted Patients and Mortality of In-Patients in Pediatric Ward of Chonbuk National University Hospital


Abstract
Statistical analysis for admitted patients & mortality of In-pa+dents in pediatric ward of Chonbuk National University Hospital during past 4 years from 1981 to 1984 was performed.
The results are as follows:
1) The total number of pediatric in-patients was 4705, of which 3061(65.1%) were male, 1644(34.9%) were female and male to female ratio was 1.86 : 1.
2) The mortality rate among the total admitted patients was 2.6% and gradually decreased by year & there was no significant difference between both sex.
3) In monthly distribution of total admitted and death cases, september was the most frequent.
4) In age distribution, infants below 1 year of age were distributed in 54 cases(44.2%) of total death.
5) Of t¢¥-.e mortalities, 54.1 % of total death were died with_in 48 hours after admission.
6) Infectious and parasitic disease were the most frequent cause of death(43.4%)
7) Major leading causes of death were sepsis, pneumonia, Reye syndrome, encephalitis, tuberculosis & meningitis in order of frequency.
8) Causes of death according to age were as follows;
a) In the neonatal period, sepsis was the most frequent.
b) In the age of 1 month to 1 year, sepsis and Reye syndrome were the most frequent.
c) In the age of 1 year to 2 years, pneumonia was the most frequent.
d) In the age of 2 years to 6 years, tuberculous meningitis was the most frequent.
e) In the age 6 years to 12 years, encephalitis was the most frequent.
f) In the age of 12 years to 15 years, aplastic anemia, rheumatic carditis and Reye syndrome were the most frequent.
